I'm very proud of my work for Chartwell Bookseller's 2026 catalogue. This catalogue was made with a different intent than previous years, where the goal was to commemorate some past sales that were of great value and rarity.
With that in mind, I pivoted away from our typical designs and wanted to make this catalogue stand out from all the others!
This is a 6 x 9 physical catalogue of 32 pages. Made with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe InDesign.
COVER ART PROCESS
The cover was a fun challenge. In the spirit of commemoration, my instructions for the cover were to capture a physical part of the store. I started with a photograph, and then gave it a semi-painted effect using a series of Photoshop actions (thank you envato tutorials!).
There were definitely some compromises I made, as I really liked the version that looked more like a watercolor painting but was the store owner thought it was too abstract. Eventually I had to sacrifice the watercolor vision for something more realistic, but I was able to keep a semi-illustrative effect.
As pictured (left-to-right): Photograph to work with (slightly edited), first iteration with a sketchy water color effect, next iteration with more saturation and less abstraction, final iteration (more photographic).
